The NV48 dining chair was designed by Finn Juhl in the late 1940s and produced by cabinetmaker Niels Vodder in Denmark. The design reflects Juhl’s early exploration of separating upholstered elements from the structural frame, allowing each component to read independently.
The chair features a compact seat and a tall, gently curved backrest, creating an upright but comfortable posture. The sculpted arms and transitions between elements are carefully shaped, giving continuity to the form. The solid wood frame presents a warm tone and subtle grain, consistent with walnut examples from this period.
This example is upholstered in Sorensen vegetal leather, offering a soft surface with a natural finish that will develop character over time. The frame is well preserved, with clean surfaces and sound joinery. The chair is in excellent condition, with minimal signs of wear.
A refined example of early Danish modern design, where craftsmanship and proportion are resolved with clarity.
