Small sculptural notches at either side of this transition accentuate the separation between seat and back, introducing the organic detailing characteristic of Juhl’s work into an otherwise distinctly industrial design.

The shell is cast in glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide, combining a thin visual profile with the strength required for everyday seating. Beneath it, slender painted tubular-steel legs form a lightweight supporting structure, allowing the molded shell to remain visually dominant.

A particularly characteristic detail appears at floor level, where the metal legs terminate in small solid-wood toes. Available by House of Finn Juhl in teak, oak, or walnut depending on configuration, these wooden elements introduce a subtle reference to the cabinetmaking materials more commonly associated with Finn Juhl’s furniture.

The FJ 64 was conceived as a lightweight, stackable chair suitable for both residential and contract interiors. Although designed in 1964, the chair was never placed into production during Finn Juhl’s lifetime and remained in the archives for more than five decades. House of Finn Juhl introduced the design into production in 2017, preserving its unusual combination of molded polymer, painted steel, and wood.

The FJ 64 demonstrates a less familiar side of Finn Juhl’s work: an exploration of industrial materials and serial production while retaining the sculptural transitions, lightness, and carefully articulated details found throughout his furniture.

Presented in pre-owned condition with wear consistent with use.
