Designed by Erik Gustafsson in 1954, the Model 311 coffee table is a distinctive example of Swedish Mid-Century Modern design, combining warm teak veneer, original black lacquered details, and subtle brass accents.
The elongated tabletop is finished in richly figured teak veneer, framed by contrasting black lacquered trim and supported by slender tapered legs. Small circular brass details punctuate the surface, adding a refined material contrast without interrupting the table’s restrained Scandinavian character.
Particularly distinctive are the subtly raised ends of the tabletop, which give the surface a tray-like profile and soften its otherwise linear geometry. The combination of warm wood, black lacquer, brass, and finely proportioned legs creates a visually light composition characteristic of Swedish furniture of the postwar period.
At 21.1 inches high, the Model 311 has a slightly elevated profile compared with many conventional low coffee tables. This gives the piece considerable versatility, allowing it to function not only as a coffee table, but also as a cocktail, serving, or occasional table alongside lounge seating.
This example remains in excellent vintage condition, retaining its teak veneer surface, brass details, and original black lacquered trim and legs. This table remains in its original configuration and retains its original height. If preferred, the legs can be professionally shortened to accommodate the buyer’s desired height.
