This Model 33 easy chair was designed by Carl Edward Matthes in 1952. The frame is crafted in solid teak, with a warm tone and visible grain that defines the structure. The form is characterized by a continuous sculptural backrest that extends into curved arms, terminating in exposed wooden ends. The transitions between elements are smooth and controlled, reflecting a high level of craftsmanship.
The seat and back are upholstered in a textured teal fabric with subtle mustard yellow stripes. The upholstery sits neatly within the frame, emphasizing the contrast between the soft surfaces and the defined wooden structure. The proportions are compact yet comfortable, with a slightly reclined stance that supports a relaxed sitting position.
The chair is in very good vintage condition. The frame is structurally sound, with clean surfaces and well-preserved joinery. The upholstery remains in good condition, with light wear consistent with age.
A clear example of Danish modern seating, where sculptural form and careful joinery define the design.
