Designed by Hans Olsen in 1956 and produced by Juul Kristensen in Denmark for DUX, this Model 532-A rocking chair is a refined and increasingly rare example of Danish mid-century modern design.
Crafted in solid teak, the chair is defined by its sculptural lightness, with wide flat arms, elegantly tapered rockers, and a high woven rattan backrest that brings warmth and transparency to the form. Olsen’s approach to design often challenged conventional furniture typologies, and this rocking chair reflects that philosophy perfectly, balancing visual delicacy with exceptional comfort and structural sophistication.
The chair has been newly upholstered in a soft beige fabric that complements the warmth of the teak and the texture of the woven cane backrest. Beneath the seat, an internal zig-zag spring system provides resilient support and a remarkably comfortable sit, creating a gentle suspended feeling uncommon in traditional rocking chairs. The matching head cushion remains attached with its original leather support straps, preserving an important detail of the original design.
The frame remains in excellent vintage condition, with beautifully preserved teak surfaces and clean joinery throughout. The woven rattan backrest is also well preserved, maintaining its original texture and integrity. The original DUX “Made in Denmark” label is still present, reinforcing the authenticity and collectibility of the piece.
A rare and highly expressive example of Scandinavian modernism, combining craftsmanship, comfort, and architectural clarity in a form that feels both relaxed and highly sculptural.
