This rocking chair was designed by Helge Vestergaard-Jensen and produced by master cabinetmaker Søren Horn in Denmark during the 1950s. It is an exceptionally scarce example of Danish modern design, combining architectural clarity with highly refined cabinetmaking.
The structure is crafted in solid Cuban mahogany, a material prized for its warmth, density, and depth of grain. The frame is defined by its tall sculptural backrest, softly curved rockers, and seamless joinery throughout. Each transition between components is carefully resolved, giving the chair a continuous and highly controlled silhouette.
The seat and back retain their original black leather upholstery, introducing a restrained contrast against the warmth of the mahogany. The proportions are generous yet visually light, balancing comfort with sculptural presence. The chair reflects the close relationship between Danish architects and master cabinetmakers during the mid-century period, where technical precision and material quality were treated as inseparable.
The chair remains in exceptional vintage condition. The mahogany surfaces are beautifully preserved, with a deep and even patina throughout. The original leather upholstery remains intact and presents well, showing only light wear consistent with age and careful use. The structure is solid and stable.
