This Amazonas lounge chair was designed by Jean Gillon and produced by Wood Art in Brazil during the 1960s. The structure is crafted in solid rosewood, forming a low and grounded frame with clearly expressed joinery. The proportions are generous, with a wide stance and a deep seat that emphasizes comfort while maintaining a defined architectural presence.
The seating system is suspended within the frame through a hand-tied rope net, tensioned across the structure. The leather cushions rest within this support, creating a flexible surface that adapts to the body. This construction introduces a softer, more responsive seating experience, where the seat gently yields while remaining stable. The exposed through-tenon joints and tusk wedges express the logic of assembly and reinforce the structural clarity of the piece.
The chair has been restored by our team. The rosewood frame has been cleaned and refinished, preserving its original character. The piece features black leather upholstery, recently completed, providing a clean and consistent surface.
The chair is in very good condition. The structure is solid, the rope support remains functional, and the leather is new with an even finish.
