This Amazonas sofa was designed by Jean Gillon and produced by Wood Art in Brazil during the 1960s. The structure is crafted in solid rosewood, with a strong architectural frame defined by its exposed joinery and clear proportions. The material presents a deep tone and pronounced grain, characteristic of Brazilian hardwoods from the period.
The seating system is suspended within the frame through a hand-tied rope net, tensioned across the structure. Leather cushions rest within this support, creating a flexible surface that adapts to the body. The result is a softer, more responsive sit, distinct from conventional upholstered sofas. The construction remains visible, with through-tenon joints and tusk wedges expressing the logic of assembly.
The sofa has been restored by our team. The rosewood frame has been cleaned and refinished, preserving its original character. The piece features black leather upholstery, recently completed, providing a clean and consistent surface while maintaining the original configuration.
The piece is in very good condition. The structure is solid, and the rope support remains functional. The leather is new, with a smooth and even finish.
