Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1951 and produced by A.P. Stolen in Denmark, the AP19 "Papa Bear" is one of the defining lounge chairs of Danish Modern design. Recognized for its sculptural winged back, expressive proportions, and signature teak "paw" armrests, the chair reflects Wegner's human-centered approach to furniture, balancing comfort with refined craftsmanship.

This example retains its original upholstery, featuring a finely woven striped fabric in warm earth tones of beige, rust, olive, and muted brown. The subtle vertical stripe enhances the chair's sculptural contours while adding warmth and texture. The original teak armrests have developed a rich patina and remain beautifully preserved, complementing the tapered solid teak legs.

The chair remains in very good vintage condition. The upholstery presents well with light, age-appropriate wear, and the frame is solid and structurally sound. The teak surfaces have been carefully cleaned and conditioned, preserving the warmth and character of the wood.

An enduring icon of Danish furniture design, the AP19 combines sculptural presence with exceptional comfort, making it equally suited to daily use or a serious modern design collection.
