Designed by Arne Vodder and produced by France & Søn in Denmark during the 1960s, the Model FD 164 is a high-back reclining lounge chair combining a sculpted teak frame with an integrated mechanical reclining system. This example is accompanied by its matching ottoman and is currently upholstered in pink suede.
The chair is distinguished by its long, sculpted armrests and relatively light wooden structure surrounding the upholstered seat and high back. The teak arms broaden subtly through the centre before tapering toward their ends, giving the chair a particularly expressive profile while retaining the restrained construction associated with Danish Modern furniture of the period.
A reclining mechanism integrated beneath the seat allows the seating position to be adjusted, changing the relationship between the seat and high back for a more relaxed posture. The matching ottoman extends the same angular vocabulary of the chair and provides additional leg support when the chair is used in its reclined position.
Beneath the cushions, the seat incorporates a metal spring suspension system, while the exposed teak frame provides the primary structural and visual element of the design. The chair retains its original France & Søn manufacturer’s medallion, providing direct documentation of its production.
The chair and ottoman are offered in their present condition with the existing pink suede upholstery. The listed price reflects the set exactly as shown.
Professional reupholstery is also available through our workshop if desired. Upholstery material, colour, final cost, and completion time can be arranged according to the buyer’s preference. Reupholstery is not included in the listed price.
