A Canadian Mid-century modern reclining lounge chair manufactured by Paramount Furniture Mfg. Co. Ltd. in Montreal, Canada. Retaining its original maker’s label, this thoughtfully designed chair combines Scandinavian-inspired woodwork with an integrated reclining mechanism.
The solid afrormosia frame features rich grain, sculpted side supports, and distinctive armrests that gently flare outward into pointed, wing-like tips. A curved backrest with horizontal wooden slats adds visual interest from behind, making the chair well suited to placement within an open room.
Beneath its streamlined profile, a concealed metal mechanism allows the back to recline while extending a two-part leg rest. The design provides the comfort of a recliner while preserving an elegant silhouette, without an exposed operating lever.
Zigzag steel springs support the seat, complementing the substantial wooden frame. The combination of expressive timber detailing and concealed functionality reflects the influence of Scandinavian design on Canadian furniture of the period.
