Designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Faarup Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s, this dining table reflects the balance of refinement, functionality, and proportion that defined the best Scandinavian modern furniture of the period.
Crafted in teak, the table is defined by its clean circular form, softly tapered legs, and restrained detailing. Kofod-Larsen approached furniture with a strong architectural sensibility, allowing subtle proportions and material quality to define the overall character of the piece. The warm tone and expressive grain of the teak are emphasized through a simple and highly resolved construction.
In its closed configuration, the table functions as a compact round dining table with a light visual presence suitable for smaller interiors and everyday use. The engineering of the extension system allows the table to expand seamlessly through the addition of one or two extension leaves, transforming the piece into progressively larger oval configurations depending on the occasion. With one leaf installed, the table comfortably accommodates six to eight people, while the fully extended configuration seats up to ten people comfortably. The extension mechanism operates smoothly and reflects the exceptional cabinetmaking standards associated with Faarup production during the period.
Ib Kofod-Larsen played a central role in bringing Danish modern design to an international audience, particularly throughout North America during the postwar years. His work consistently combined practicality with sculptural restraint, and this table remains a particularly strong example of that approach.
The table remains in excellent vintage condition. The teak surfaces are clean and well preserved, with a rich and even tone throughout. The extension mechanism functions properly, and the structure remains solid and stable.
