Produced in Denmark during the 1960s, this extending dining table by Ejstrupholm Møbelfabrik reflects the practicality and restraint that define Danish modern furniture. Compact in its closed configuration, the table was designed to serve everyday dining needs while providing additional capacity when required.
Executed in teak, the table features clean lines, gently softened edges, and well-balanced proportions. The warm grain of the teak remains the primary decorative element, allowing the craftsmanship and material quality to take precedence over ornament.
The table incorporates a traditional Danish draw-leaf extension system. Extension leaves are stored beneath the main top and can be pulled out smoothly from either end, allowing the table to expand quickly when accommodating additional guests. Each leaf adds approximately 19.75” (50 cm), increasing the overall length from 51.25” (130 cm) to 90.5” (230 cm) when both extensions are deployed. This system preserves the clean appearance of the table while providing exceptional functionality for smaller dining spaces.
The table remains in very good vintage condition. The structure is solid, the extension mechanism operates properly, and the teak surfaces present well with only minor age-appropriate wear.
A thoughtful example of Danish modern design, where flexibility, proportion, and material quality are resolved within a simple and highly functional form.
