This FD451 daybed was designed by Peter Hvidt and produced by France and Son in Denmark during the 1960s. The design reflects Hvidt’s approach to modular living, where flexibility and structure are integrated into a clear and functional form.
The frame is crafted in solid teak, with a warm tone and well-defined grain. The defining feature is the pair of fold-down arms with pleated rattan panels. These elements allow the piece to shift between a compact sofa and a fully open daybed, creating multiple modes of use within a single object. The proportions are low and horizontal, supporting both seated and reclined positions.
The cushions have been newly upholstered, offering a clean and tailored surface that complements the warmth of the wood and the texture of the rattan. The structure remains visually light, with a clear separation between frame and soft elements.
The piece is in excellent condition. The teak frame is solid and well preserved, the rattan is intact, and the upholstery is new. All moving elements function smoothly.
A second matching sofa with fixed arms is also available, as well as the original side table from the same modular system, allowing for a complete and cohesive arrangement.
