A refined 1960s “Governor” sofa designed by Poul Cadovius for France & Son, defined by its architectural timber frame and disciplined Scandinavian modern language. The design presents a clean horizontal profile while sitting slightly elevated from the floor, allowing the body of the sofa to appear visually light — almost floating — despite its solid construction.
The primary structure and legs are crafted in Brazilian rosewood, executed with precise joinery and clear structural logic. The side and rear panels are finished in natural veneer marquetry, introducing a subtle graphic rhythm that contrasts with the clarity of the structural members.
A defining feature of this three-seat example is its integrated convertible function. By removing the seat cushions, the sofa transforms into a single sleeping surface, offering practical versatility while maintaining the integrity of the overall form.
The sofa retains its textured beige bouclé upholstery. Comfort is excellent. The piece remains in excellent vintage condition, structurally sound and well preserved, showing light, honest signs of age consistent with its period.
A matching two-seat example is also available, along with a coffee table and side table from the same series.
