This Jangada lounge chair and ottoman were designed by Jean Gillon in Brazil during the 1960s. The structure is crafted in solid rosewood, with a low and grounded frame that emphasizes the density and variation of the grain. The components are assembled through a clear and legible system, where each element contributes to the overall stability and proportion.
The seating is defined by its suspended net support, which holds the cushions in a flexible and responsive way. This construction allows the seat to adapt to the body, creating a distinct sense of weightlessness within a robust wooden frame. The cushions are upholstered in black leather, forming a quiet contrast with the warmth of the wood.
The set is in excellent condition. The rosewood frame is structurally sound, with clean and well-preserved surfaces. The original suspension net remains intact and functional. The leather cushions show light, even wear consistent with age and use, with a soft surface and stable form.
A clear example of Gillon’s approach to material and structure, where comfort is achieved through a direct and expressive construction.
