Designed by Gunni Omann in 1958 and produced by Omann Jun Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s, the Model 18 is one of the most recognizable credenzas of the Danish Modern period. The design is defined by its clean horizontal proportions, sculpted solid teak pulls, and exceptional attention to cabinetmaking detail.
Executed in teak, the credenza features beautifully matched grain across the façade and a pair of sliding doors fitted with Omann’s signature carved handles. The case is elevated on elegant tapered legs, giving the piece a light architectural presence despite its substantial storage capacity.
The interior is particularly practical. Four pull-out drawers provide organized storage for smaller items, while the cabinet section behind the sliding doors offers a large uninterrupted storage area. Unlike many credenzas of the period, there is no fixed vertical divider within the main cabinet compartment, allowing larger objects to be stored with ease. Adjustable shelving further increases flexibility, making the piece suitable for dining storage, records, audio equipment, barware, office use, or general household storage.
The credenza remains in very good vintage condition. The structure is solid, the sliding doors operate smoothly, and the drawers function properly. The teak surfaces retain a rich color and warmth that highlight the quality of the original materials.
A thoughtful example of Danish modern design, where utility, craftsmanship, and proportion are resolved with remarkable clarity.
