Designed by Percival Lafer during the 1960s and produced in Brazil, the MP-13 lounge chair reflects the combination of generous comfort, exposed construction, and expressive materials that characterized Lafer’s approach to Brazilian modern furniture.
The chair is organized around an exposed solid Brazilian rosewood frame, with the upholstered body suspended within the structure rather than concealing it. Rounded legs, strong horizontal rails, and exposed wooden fastening details give the chair a distinctly architectural character while allowing the deeply cushioned seat, back, and arms to remain visually soft and relaxed.
This example retains its original black leather upholstery, displaying a pronounced patina developed through decades of use. The leather shows extensive wear, creasing, cracking, scratches, and areas of surface loss, particularly across the seat. These characteristics are clearly visible in the photographs and form part of the chair’s current original vintage condition. The Brazilian rosewood structure, by contrast, remains very well preserved, with attractive grain and warm colour throughout.
