Designed by Percival Lafer during the 1960s and produced in Brazil, the MP-13 sofa reflects the balance of comfort, structural clarity, and material richness that defined the best examples of Brazilian modern design during the period.
The sofa is organized around an exposed solid Brazilian rosewood frame, where the upholstered body is suspended within the structure rather than concealing it. The strong horizontal proportions, open base, and visible framing elements create a composition that feels both architectural and relaxed. Lafer’s approach consistently emphasized comfort without sacrificing structural honesty, and the MP-13 remains one of his clearest expressions of that philosophy.
This example has been professionally reupholstered in green leather, introducing a rich tonal contrast against the warmth and depth of the Brazilian rosewood. The deep seating position and relaxed back angle create an exceptionally comfortable lounge experience, while the integrated wooden upholstery buttons remain a defining visual and structural detail of the design. These exposed fastening elements reflect Lafer’s characteristic tendency to incorporate construction directly into the visual identity of the piece.
The sofa remains in excellent restored condition. The Brazilian rosewood frame is solid and well preserved, with clean joinery and strong grain definition throughout. The leather upholstery is newly completed, with soft texture, even tone, and careful tailoring across all seating surfaces.
