This MP91 sofa was designed by Percival Lafer in Brazil during the 1960s. The structure is defined by an exposed hardwood frame, where the construction is fully legible. Through tenon and wedge joinery connect each element, creating a system that is both structural and expressive. The proportions are low and horizontal, giving the piece a grounded presence.
The seating is suspended within the frame through a series of wide leather support straps. This system holds an injection molded foam seat, creating a slight visual separation between frame and cushion. The result is a balanced composition, where the seat appears to float while maintaining a stable and supportive sit.
The sofa has been reupholstered in high-quality Italian leather. The upholstery is clean and precisely fitted, complementing the warmth of the wood. The frame is structurally sound, with well-preserved surfaces and clear joinery. The straps are in good condition and fully functional.
A clear example of Brazilian modern design, where structure, material, and comfort are resolved through direct construction.
