This floor lamp is constructed around a single narwhal tusk, creating a highly unusual combination of natural material and mid-century craftsmanship. The tusk serves as the primary structural element, rising from a teak base accented with copper fittings and supporting its original fabric shade.

The design balances organic and geometric forms. The naturally spiraled surface of the tusk contrasts with the octagonal teak base and simple cylindrical shade, resulting in a composition that feels both sculptural and functional. The warm tones of the teak and copper complement the natural ivory coloration of the tusk without competing for attention.

Unlike many examples that have been refinished or altered over time, this lamp remains remarkably original. It retains its original shade and has not been cleaned, polished, or restored, preserving the character and patina accumulated through decades of use.

The lamp remains in good vintage condition and functions properly. The tusk, base, fittings, and shade all present well, with age-appropriate wear consistent with its history.

An intriguing example of mid-century decorative lighting, where natural history, craftsmanship, and domestic design intersect in a highly distinctive form.
