A beautifully proportioned vintage freestanding wall unit, made in Norway and combining open shelving, concealed storage, a dedicated bar cabinet, and a glass-fronted display cabinet within a remarkably compact footprint.
Constructed primarily in warm teak, the system reflects the practical and architectural approach that defined Scandinavian storage furniture during the mid-twentieth century. Rather than functioning as a conventional cabinet, the individual components are arranged vertically between two tall uprights, creating an open composition that provides substantial storage while maintaining a light visual presence.
The lower cabinet is fitted with two hinged doors and incorporates a particularly appealing bar section. Opening the cabinet reveals a central drop-front compartment with richly figured darker wood, accompanied by a felt-lined drawer below and additional storage compartments to either side. The contrast between the warm teak exterior, lighter cabinet interiors, dark wood bar section, and green felt gives this otherwise restrained piece an unexpectedly refined interior.
Above the base cabinet is an adjustable open shelf, providing space for books, ceramics, artwork, plants, or decorative objects. The upper display cabinet is enclosed by sliding glass doors decorated with a subtle linear pattern. Inside, a glass shelf and mirrored back create additional depth and reflect light through displayed objects, making the cabinet especially suitable for glassware and barware.
One of the strongest qualities of the design is its flexibility. The vertically adjustable uprights allow the components to be positioned at different heights, making the system adaptable to changing display and storage requirements. Its narrow one-bay format also makes it particularly useful in spaces where a larger multi-bay wall system would be impractical.
The unit remains in original vintage condition and displays age-related wear consistent with its history, including areas of discoloration, surface marks, scratches, and other blemishes.
