This pair of Amazonas lounge chairs was designed by Jean Gillon and produced by Wood Art in Brazil during the 1960s. The structures are crafted in solid rosewood, forming low, grounded frames with clearly expressed joinery. Their generous proportions, wide stance, and deep seats emphasize comfort while maintaining a distinctly architectural presence.
The seating system is suspended within each frame through a hand-tied rope net, tensioned across the structure. The leather cushions rest within this support, creating a flexible surface that adapts to the body. Exposed through-tenon joints and tusk wedges further express the construction and assembly of the chairs.
Both chairs have been restored by our team. The rosewood frames have been carefully cleaned and refinished while preserving their original character. Both examples have also been recently upholstered in black leather, providing a consistent finish across the pair.
The chairs are in very good condition. Both structures are solid, the rope suspension systems remain functional, and the new black leather upholstery presents with an even finish.
