Designed by Bruno Mathsson and produced by DUX in Sweden, the Pernilla 69 lounge chair and ottoman reflect Mathsson’s long study of ergonomics, material flexibility, and the natural posture of the human body. The model was developed from Mathsson’s earlier Pernilla design and refined in 1969 with a more generous cushioned configuration.
The chair is built around a laminated bent beech frame with a light canvas support system beneath the cushions. The curved structure gives the piece its relaxed profile while maintaining visual lightness. The matching ottoman extends the seating position and completes the lounge experience.
This example retains its original cognac leather upholstery. The leather has developed a warm natural patina with age-appropriate marks and tonal variation, giving the set a strong sense of character while preserving the integrity of the material. The beech frame remains solid and well preserved, with no structural issues noted.
The set remains in very good vintage condition. The original leather, canvas support, and bentwood frame all present well and remain suitable for use.
A thoughtful example of Swedish modern design, where comfort, structure, and material honesty are resolved through carefully studied proportions.
