Produced by R. Huber in Canada during the 1960s, this pod chair reflects the bold sculptural language of Canadian mid-century modern design. The chair combines a solid teak frame with a molded fiberglass seat shell, creating a compact and enveloping form with a strong architectural presence.
The low profile, rounded shell, and channel-tufted upholstery give the chair its distinctive character. The molded seat creates a supportive interior shape, while the exposed teak frame provides warmth, structure, and visual balance. The combination of fiberglass and teak reflects the period’s interest in new materials placed within carefully crafted wooden frameworks.
This example has been professionally reupholstered by hand with new foam, giving the chair a supportive and comfortable sit while preserving the original form. The upholstery presents cleanly, and the teak frame remains in excellent condition.
The matching three-seat sofa from the same R. Huber seating group is also available separately, upholstered in a slightly lighter blue fabric. Please see our other listings for additional details.
A considered example of Canadian modern seating, where material contrast, comfort, and sculptural form are resolved within a compact lounge chair.
