Mikael Laursen in Denmark during the 1960s, this high-back reclining lounge chair and ottoman exemplifies the Scandinavian approach to comfort, craftsmanship, and elegant engineering. The design combines sculptural teak construction with a remarkably refined reclining mechanism, creating a chair that is equally impressive visually and functionally.
The solid teak frame showcases beautifully sculpted wing-shaped armrests and flowing organic lines throughout. The warm tone of the teak is complemented by newly upholstered cushions in a charcoal-grey fabric, providing a contemporary contrast while remaining sympathetic to the original design. Every angle reveals the careful attention to proportion and detail that distinguishes the work of John Boné.
One of the chair’s most notable features is its integrated reclining mechanism. Unlike many recliners of the period that relied on bulky metal hardware, this design maintains a clean architectural appearance while allowing the chair to glide smoothly into a deeply relaxed position. The matching ottoman mirrors the chair’s construction and upholstery, with raised teak side rails that frame the cushion and serve as practical carrying handles.
The chair and ottoman remain in excellent restored condition. The teak frame has been cleaned and refreshed, the upholstery is newly completed, and the reclining mechanism operates smoothly. The structure is solid and ready for daily use.
