This RY wall unit was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Ry Mobler in Denmark during the 1960s. The system is composed of three vertical modules, forming a wide and highly functional storage arrangement that integrates shelving, concealed storage, and dedicated media components.
The left module includes a record storage section fitted with original metal dividers, allowing vinyl to be organized vertically with clear spacing and easy access. The central module maintains open adjustable shelving, creating visual balance and flexible storage. The right module features a drop-down cabinet designed for a turntable, with a hinged front panel that opens to form a stable working surface. The interior accommodates audio equipment while maintaining a clean exterior when closed.
All modules are constructed in teak, with consistent grain and tone across the full width. The shelving system is based on precision-drilled side panels with metal support pins, allowing for incremental height adjustments. This system provides flexibility while maintaining the clean, uninterrupted lines that define the RY series.
The unit stands on integrated metal leveling feet, slightly lifting the structure from the floor and allowing precise adjustment. This detail contributes to both stability and the light visual presence typical of Wegner’s modular systems.
The piece is in excellent vintage condition. The teak surfaces are clean and well preserved, with minor wear consistent with age. All elements, including the drop-down cabinet, shelving, and record dividers, function as intended. A complete and well-resolved example of Wegner’s modular thinking, combining storage, display, and media into a unified architectural system.
