Designed by Carlo Bartoli for Rossi di Albizzate during the 1970s, the “Bogo” is a distinctive expression of Italian modular seating, defined by generous volumes, deeply cushioned upholstery, and a system of independent elements conceived to create fluid, sculptural compositions.
This configuration consists of three modules — two concave and one convex — whose opposing curves allow the sofa to move beyond the conventional linear sectional. Arranged together, the elements can form a flowing S-shaped composition, a gently curved conversation setting, or be separated and repositioned according to the architecture of the room.
Each module combines a brown suede-wrapped base with generously padded cushions upholstered in supple yellow leather. The contrast between the earthy suede and warm yellow leather emphasizes the layered construction of the seating while giving the sofa the bold material presence associated with Italian interiors of the period. The low profile, substantial cushioning, and deep seats create a relaxed and enveloping seating experience.
The alternating concave and convex geometry is particularly significant. Rather than treating modularity simply as a practical method of extending a sofa, Bartoli used individual modules as components of a larger spatial composition. The curved elements can direct occupants toward one another, open the seating toward the surrounding room, or create a continuous serpentine form. Even with only three modules, the system retains much of the architectural flexibility of larger Bogo configurations.
Produced by Rossi di Albizzate, a manufacturer closely associated with progressive Italian upholstered furniture during the second half of the twentieth century, the Bogo reflects the period’s movement away from conventional framed seating toward softer, more informal and adaptable living environments.
This three-piece configuration is particularly compelling for contemporary interiors: substantial enough to function as a complete sculptural seating group while remaining considerably easier to place than the very large Bogo installations often encountered on the market.
The set has been restored and presents in excellent vintage condition, retaining a warm patina consistent with its age. The yellow leather and contrasting brown suede reinforce the strongly period character of the design while allowing each individual module to remain visually distinct.
