Designed by Percival Lafer and produced by Lafer S.A. in Brazil around 1975, the MP-211 two-seater sofa stands among the most recognizable and technically sophisticated examples of Brazilian modern seating. Combining sculptural structure with an unusually immersive seating experience, the model reflects Lafer’s distinctive ability to merge industrial innovation with the warmth and tactility of handcrafted materials.
The composition is defined by its exposed sculptural jatobá side supports, which rise dramatically along the edges of the sofa and anchor the suspended upholstered body. The richly figured Brazilian wood introduces warmth and visual depth.
This example is upholstered in black original leather with deeply structured channeling that emphasizes the sculptural volume of the piece while preserving the visual rhythm characteristic of the model. The leather remains supple and beautifully preserved, complementing the rich tones of the jatoba structure.
The sofa remains in excellent vintage condition. The structure is solid and stable, with clean joinery and beautifully jatoba surfaces throughout. The leather presents exceptionally well, with soft texture and even tone across all seating surfaces.
