Designed by Percival Lafer and produced by Lafer in Brazil during the 1970s, the MP-41 sofa embodies the designer’s approach to comfort, material honesty, and structural clarity. The design combines a low, relaxed profile with a substantial exposed jatobá frame, creating a balanced relationship between architecture and upholstery.
This example represents the less commonly encountered extra-long version of the MP-41, measuring an impressive 90.5” (230 cm) in length. The generous proportions comfortably accommodate up to four people while preserving the clean horizontal emphasis that defines the design. Deep cushions are suspended within the wooden structure, and the exposed jatobá frame highlights the natural character of the wood while emphasizing the modular construction methods that helped define Brazilian modern furniture of the period. The warm tones of the wood contrast beautifully with the newly upholstered leather surfaces.
This example has been professionally reupholstered in Spinneybeck Espana 8034 Azafran, a premium European upholstery leather known for its rich color, durability, and natural character. The jatobá frame has been cleaned and conditioned, and the sofa presents in excellent condition throughout.
A thoughtful example of Brazilian modern design, where comfort, craftsmanship, and material quality are resolved within a clear and enduring form.
