This pair of MP81 side tables was designed by Percival Lafer and produced in Brazil during the 1970s. The structure is crafted in solid jatoba, forming a robust and grounded base that supports a rectangular top finished in formica. The proportions are low and generous, allowing the pieces to function both individually and as a combined surface.
The construction reflects a direct and practical approach. The edges are wrapped in leather, introducing a softer material contrast while protecting the perimeter. Exposed screws are integrated into the design, reinforcing the structural logic and creating a consistent visual language across the piece.
The tables can be used independently as deep side tables or grouped together to form a larger central surface. This modular flexibility aligns with Lafer’s approach to adaptable living, where furniture responds to different spatial needs.
The set is in very good vintage condition. The frames are solid and stable, with clean wood surfaces. The formica tops show light wear consistent with age, and the leather edges remain intact. All elements function as intended.
This listing is for the pair.
A clear example of Brazilian modern design, where structure, material, and function are resolved through direct construction.
