Designed by Jean Gillon and produced by Probel in Brazil during the 1970s, this pair of low-back lounge chairs combines substantial proportions, exposed hardwood construction, and suspended leather seating characteristic of Brazilian Modern furniture of the period.
The chairs feature sculptural imbuia frames with rich dark tones and expressive grain. Their architectural construction is softened by generous tan leather cushions, while the seats are suspended within the frames using suede leather supports, creating a relaxed seating position while leaving much of the wooden structure visible.
Both chairs remain in original vintage condition, retaining their original tan leather upholstery, suede suspension supports, and period construction. A manufacturer's stamp beneath the frame provides additional documentation of their production. Pegged joinery allows the frames to be dismantled, an intelligent construction detail that can also facilitate more economical long-distance shipping.
The hardwood frames have been well preserved and display a natural patina developed through age and use. The original leather remains supple and presents with age-appropriate wear. There are some light cat scratches beneath the front edge of the seat cushions, along with minor wear concealed underneath the cushions. These details are consistent with the chairs' preserved original condition.
