A Pianura modular three-seat sofa designed by Mario Bellini and produced by Cassina in Italy in 1971.

The design is defined by its low horizontal profile and clear modular construction. Generous upholstered volumes are framed by integrated Italian walnut tray arms and sculptural slatted wood backs, creating a balance between softness and structure. The wood elements introduce warmth while maintaining a consistent architectural rhythm.

The proportions are wide and grounded, with a seating depth that encourages a relaxed posture. The slatted backs and exposed wood components reinforce the construction logic of the system while remaining visually light.

This three-seat configuration can be separated into a two-seat sofa, with the central module functioning independently as a lounge chair. This adaptability reflects Bellini’s approach to flexible interior landscapes.

The sofa remains in excellent vintage condition. The upholstery presents well, and the wood surfaces show consistent tone and grain. Cassina manufacturer labels are present.

This piece is part of the Pianura modular system, and we also have a pair of lounge chairs, a rectangular coffee table, and a square table that can function as an ottoman base available—please see our other listings.

A considered example of modular Italian design where form, flexibility, and material are resolved with clarity.
