Produced by Selig by Simmons during the 1970s, this six-piece modular sectional sofa is a striking example of the increasingly relaxed, adaptable approach to residential seating that emerged during the late Mid-Century Modern period.
The complete set consists of three corner modules, two armless center modules, and one matching ottoman. Each seating module is based on the same generous 32” square footprint, allowing the individual pieces to be rearranged into a wide variety of configurations depending on the room and intended use.
Deep, low seating and generously padded loose cushions give the sofa its characteristic relaxed appearance. The cushions feature subtle geometric tufting across the seats, while the substantial back and side cushions create an enveloping seating experience. Upholstered throughout in a textured grey fabric, the neutral palette emphasizes the generous proportions and architectural geometry of the individual modules.
The great strength of the design is its flexibility. The five seating modules can be arranged as a traditional L-shaped sectional, a more compact corner sofa, a long linear sofa, or separated into smaller seating groups. Individual corner modules can function almost as lounge chairs, while the armless sections can extend either side of a composition. The ottoman can serve as a footrest, additional informal seating, or be positioned directly against a module to create a chaise-like arrangement.
Because every module shares the same 32” x 32” footprint, the sectional can continue to evolve with the space around it. This modularity reflects an important shift in postwar furniture design toward informal living environments and furniture that could adapt to changing interiors rather than dictate a single permanent arrangement.
Visually, the sectional balances substantial comfort with a disciplined geometric structure. Its low profile keeps even larger configurations from feeling overly imposing, while the individual upholstered modules create a strong architectural rhythm when grouped together. The result is a versatile piece equally suited to an open living space, conversation area, media room, or more intimate lounge setting.
The sofa presents well in vintage condition, with age-related wear consistent with its history. Please refer closely to the photographs for the current condition of the upholstery and individual components.
