This coffee table is a contemporary interpretation of Poul Kjærholm’s iconic PK61 design, one of the most celebrated examples of Scandinavian minimalism. Originally introduced in 1956, the PK61 demonstrated Kjærholm’s unique ability to transform industrial materials into refined architectural furniture through proportion, precision, and restraint.
Constructed with a clear glass top resting on a steel frame, the design relies on a remarkably simple structural concept. The four legs intersect with geometric precision, while the glass top sits directly on the frame without visible fasteners, allowing the materials and proportions to define the visual experience.
Unlike the original PK61, which measured 80 x 80 cm, this contemporary example was produced in a more generous format. The larger surface area makes it particularly well suited to modern living rooms, providing substantial table space while preserving the light visual presence that has made the design so enduring. The transparency of the glass allows the sculptural steel base to remain fully visible from every angle.
The table remains in good overall condition. The frame is structurally sound, and the glass presents well overall. There are a few small chips along the edge of the glass, consistent with use, which do not affect the function or stability of the piece. Its scale and simplicity make it an excellent centerpiece for both contemporary and mid-century inspired interiors.
A thoughtful interpretation of one of the most influential coffee table designs of the twentieth century.
