A substantial Brazilian dining table dating to the 1950s–1960s, distinguished by its exceptional scale, solid-wood construction, and architectural X-frame base. Measuring nearly eight feet in length, the table is crafted primarily from solid Honduras mahogany with contrasting Brazilian rosewood trim.
The expansive rectangular top combines a broad field of solid mahogany with darker rosewood detailing around its perimeter. A carefully profiled edge gives definition to the surface, while the natural contrast between the two tropical hardwoods emphasizes the table’s substantial construction.
Below, two X-shaped supports create a strong geometric silhouette while maintaining an open structure. Particularly distinctive are the dark cross-shaped wooden details at the intersection of each support, visually connecting the base to the contrasting rosewood trim of the tabletop.
The underside retains a period paper label from Montmartre Jorge Artigos S/A of Rio de Janeiro. Active in Rio de Janeiro during the mid-20th century, Montmartre Jorge dealt in art, furniture, and decorative objects. The surviving label provides an important connection to the table’s Brazilian provenance.
At 97.5 inches long, the table offers generous proportions for a large dining room, open-plan interior, studio, or conference setting. Its substantial scale is balanced by the open geometry of the X-frame base.
The individual designer and manufacturer remain unknown, and the Montmartre Jorge label is presented as evidence of period provenance rather than a manufacturer’s mark.
